Hi folks
It's a beautiful sunny day today, a little nippy this morning, but the sun will take that chill away soon enough. I am looking out my living room window right now at my neighbour's house, and I can see the tiles on the roof. I believe that is avery good sign that Spring is coming.
On Monday afternoon, the Fun and Fellowship Committee met. We want to remind you about our Lunch and Euchre party we will be hosting on Tuesday April 28 from 12 noon until 3 pm. We will serve lunch first, and then spend a couple of hours playing Euchre. If you are new to the card game, or believe you need a refresher, we will have a table or two set aside for teaching and refreshing purposes. There will be a sign-up sheet for this activity available at the end of this month.
On Sunday May 3, Fun and Fellowship is planning a day trip to the Upper Canada Playhouse to see a musical based on music from the 50's 60's and 70's We are thinking of going somewhere for lunch after service, and then to the afternoon matinee show in Morrisburg. Stay tuned, more details to come.
On Monday evening, we had our final Faith Formation Session on Epiphany and God's Mission. The Book of Acts ends with a lot of things left unknown, and that serves as an invitation to all of us to continue the story of faith, to keep the gospel moving within our own culture, day, and age. We talked about how we can do that as members of South Gloucester United in our own communities.
We will be starting a new Faith Formation Session on Monday April 20th at 7pm. We will be looking at our favourite hymns, talking about the story behind their creation, but also looking at the lyrics themselves, and what it is that the hymn is saying about our faith. Sometimes we hear something different when we just say the lyrics without hearing the tune. You are all invited to join us.
On Tuesday Afternoon, our Bridge Club met. We had 7 people attend, so the dummy from the full table needed to come to the other table to play a hand with that group. That meant a lot of back and forth activity this afternoon, but at least there was an opportunity to play with everyone. Our next Bridge session is Tuesday March 17 at 2 pm.
I wanted to remind you of the Out-of-the-Cold dinner that we have scheduled for Saturday March 28th at Southminster United Church. There will be sign-up sheets in the hall on Sunday for a variety of tasks with suggested shift times, so if you can help out on that day, it would really be appreciated if you signed up for a task and time. Thank you very much.
Here is what is happening at the church next week.
Thurs. Mar. 12 - at 6 pm. Practice for Skit "Lent Is Spent" to be offered in worship on Sun. Mar. 15.
Thurs. Mar, 12 at 7:00 pm - Choir Practice
I will be taking a couple of Continuing Education days in preparation for the workshop I will be attending on Sat. Mar. 14 called "Working Well Together." a session meant to give toolsand skills to church leaders that enable them to work well together while doing the life and work of the church.
This Sunday in worship, we will be focusing on Romans 4:1-5, 13-17, where Paul talks about how righteousness before God cannot be achieved by works or the law, but only by grace and faith. It's a very humble passage, reminding us that we can do nothing to earn God's love. We always have this gift. All we need to do is receive it.
That's it for me folks.
Take care and God Bless.
